The Bible is a collection of texts considered sacred by Judaism and Christianity. Different religious groups include different books in their canons, in a different order, and sometimes combine or divide some books, or incorporate additional material into canonical books. Christian Bibles include between 66 pounds - for the Protestant canon - and 81 pounds - for the Ethiopian Orthodox canon. The Protestant canon combines the Old Testament, consisting of the Hebrew Bible, and the New Testament.
The Hebrew Bible is called TaNaKh, an acronym formed from the titles of its three constituent parts: the Torah (the Law), the Neviim (the prophets) and the Ketuvim (the other writings). It was translated into ancient Greek in Alexandria. This version, known as the Septuagint, was later used by Jerome de Stridon to complete his Latin translation of the Bible from Hebrew (the Vulgate) and by the "Apostles of the Slavs" Cyril and Methodius to translate the Bible into old -Slavic.
Christians call the Old Testament part of the Tanakh and other ancient texts not taken up by Jewish tradition. The Christian Bible also contains the New Testament which includes writings relating to Jesus Christ and his disciples. These are the four Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles and the Apocalypse.
The Bible brings together a collection of very varied writings (accounts of origins, legislative texts, historical accounts, texts sapiential, prophetic, poetic, hagiographies, epistles) whose writing was spread between the twentieth century BC. J.-C. and the second century. The versions known today, such as the Codex Sinaiticus for the New Testament, are noticeably later than the supposed period of their writing. This leaves an immense field of exploration for exegetes and historians and poses in acute terms the question of biblical inerrancy.
